Okay, so before I get caught up in the tour for Light a Candle for the Beast I want to finish out the tour for Spooktacular Seductions.
This is where we were on the last leg of the tour, for those that gave us some love, and took the time to share their beautiful blogs with us. November 10: Miriam of Written Love Reviews, gave us a lovely review, and recommends our book for whenever you have time. Review here. A Closet Full of Books gave an excerpt of Encantado the spooky abandoned amusement park story written by Havva Murat. Excerpt here. November 11: Musings About the Writing Life, a blog by Linda Carroll-Bradd (author of the first story Bewitching Gypsy), gave us a lovely promotional post. You Gotta Read did part one of a two part interview, asking Christy Thomas, Linda Carroll-Bradd, Havva Murat, and Anne Higa. The most popular question was this one “What do you want to be when you grow up?” followed by others that varied. Pretty interesting. J Harlie’s Books did a lovely review of Spooktacular Seductions, giving a snap shot review for each story, and a rating via motorcycles. Review here. November 12: A five star review on Pen the Dream, greeted us and gave a lovely start to the day. Done by Lisa Adams, who end the book with her short story Spooky Hallow Café. It’s as good as the name suggests, and I really think you’ll like it. Review here. Tangled Hearts and Boxer Briefs, gave us a heat rating of 3—3.5 for Ghost of Chance by Lily Carlyle, which did get a little steamy. J Review here. November 13: Starting off the day here, was fellow author Michelle Ziegler, who penned the second story in the book Garden of Souls—a new twist to meeting your soul mate. She asked us what our most terrifying Halloween Experience. Wanna know what frightened us on some full moon, trick-or-treat night? Click here. You Gotta Read showed part 2 of the interview with Michelle Ziegler, Lisa Adams, me, and Lily Carlyle. The most popular question? “Is there anything you find particularly challenging about writing?” Of course, I answered a different question, ‘cause I’m off-beat like that, but there are some pretty interesting answers here. SJParkes30 (Caitlinallycesmum) also gave us a lovely review and quizzed us on our top two Halloween traditions. Come see them all here. J November 14: My Book Fairy were so nice as to give us a spot on their blog, showcasing our lovely covers and blurbs. See here. Laurie Treacy gave the excerpt for Spooky Hollow Café by Lisa Adams on here blog, as seen here. I think this would be a pretty cool place to grab a mug of mocha. Yum. See here. J Finished this tour with an excellent review on The Writer’s Trove, where she took a glance at our book, sneaking a peek at Romance in the Shadows. It had a snapshot of each story and a rating, which I always love when I’m part of an anthology. Review here. Also a note to those whose links were broken and or who didn’t get to do what they wanted during the tour. I’ll keep an eye on them and re-post what they do, should anything spooky come up… Read, Write, Repeat—Review Totally Addicted to Reading—Excerpt for Where Angels Tread by Christy Thomas. Note, this link I had for them was broken, so they might’ve shared, but I’ll have to check it out. Renea Mason—favorite five list. Note, broken link, so I’ll search for it. J And last, but certainly not least, is the 2 Friends, Read Along With Us—their review site is rocking with reviews and they are a very big help to lots of authors. Their Facebook page is here. Thank you to all who have taken the time to read, review, and promote this book. Your help is always appreciated in getting the word out there, and you help contribute to our success. Thank you for hosting us and we now know some blogs to watch. Have a lovely evening all! And now to get ready for the next tour--Light a Candle for the Beast. Okay, let's see where we've been...and we've been some pretty good places, I'll tell you that.
Wednesday, we hit the mean streets of the blogger world with a daring question from Anne Higa--what spooky creatures real or simply fabled leaves us fantasy fiction writers quaking in our boots? There were many slithery, sneaky, creepy crawly, flesh mongers, but a few of us were of the same mind on that one. Also, this Wednesday, there was a very lovely preview of a certain special story--that's right, "If This Be Madness" flashed an excerpt at the world as seen In the Pages of a Good Book...and no, that's not some sort of marketing technique, it's the name of a very good blog with exceptional taste, if I do say so myself. :) And no, no, Wednesday's not over yet, 'cause Snap, Crackle, and Popping blog, gave us some love, as well. Now Thursday we were quizzed on decadence. What is our choice of taste, what aromas make our mouths water, what goodies keep us up at night... That's right, we were questioned, quizzed, it was practically tortured out of us: What kind of candy do we prefer? It drew the battle lines between the candy corn eaters and the chocolate grubbers. Since we all know my preference you probably won't be shocked or astounded--I'm loyal to my chocolate. But there are some people who not only didn't say chocolate--they didn't even mention it. I know, right? Disgusting, those people with their adventurous taste buds. You just can't trust a person that doesn't raid their kids candy for the good chocolate. Come check out where Terri drew the painful truths out of us on Scribbler's Sojourn. Also, R. Brennan snuck us an excerpt of Lily Carlyle's "Ghost of a Chance." Just click on the name for this little goody. And to close out Thursday, we gave interviews at Long and Short Reviews. They wanted an indepth look at us, one that saw into our souls...and yeah, I gave 'em such a close look, they must've thunked me with the magnifying glass. We were asked one of those deep and rich questions: What is your must have when writing. Some gave reasonable answers--you know, coffee, milk, silence... Well, I looked deeper inside myself as to what I need. So deep, I must've pulled something, 'cause my eloquent, and really relatable answer, is just thunk your head on your desk, hide your face behind you book amazing. Dying to know what I said, but can't wait to click? I'll give you a hint. They're attached to my hands. Yeah, you know you read this blog for a reason. Friday, holds a special place in my heart. That's right we got reviewed! Whoot! Oh, yeah! Reading...Dreaming read our book and shared our review with Amazon and every reader on her blog. Whoot! She had some favorites, but overall it was a four star review. Oh, I love a starry-eyed review. Another special Friday treat, is up on the Machenwood Chronicles...Anne Higa's excerpt for "Do You Believe in Ghosts." Now, later today, I've got some good posting to do--at least what I hope is good posting, because scheduled for today is not one, but two reviews! Hot dog, with mustard, ketchup, and an ice cold soda on the side! This is awesome! Also, note we've still got two ongoing giveaways. That's right, we're giving away copies, a gift card, a key chain, and a book box that is ever so pretty. Come and join in! Light a Candle for the Beast by Echo Shea Genre: Paranormal Romance Keywords: Romance, Paranormal, Paranormal Romance, Fairy Tale, Beauty and the Beast Release Date: November 26, 2014 If you’ve ever been caught in a riptide, pulled down into the water, then you know me. Roane Publishing is giving away THREE ARC copies to three lucky winners! You don’t even have to be a blogger. Our mailing address is: 1048 Country Route 74 Greenwich, NY 12834 unsubscribe from this list update subscription preferences I've hunted reviewers, scoured for publishers, even stumbled into awesome writing groups--but I've never tried to wrangle an agent. I wouldn't know where to start. It's nerve wracking to even think about. But I know someone who's doing it.
Janet Walden-West is an Urban Fantasy writer, award winner, and now she's trying her hand at agent wrangling--my words not hers. I've suggested luring them in with chocolate--you know, just set it on top of the manuscript and boom, got yourself an agent. Janet seems dubious, though. I even suggested the good stuff--Ferrero Roche good, but no, she still doesn't think it'll work. As you can see, I've thought of everything. It might not be as rock solid as sticking candy on your manuscript, but Janet sent me a thing called "Pitch Wars." I looked it over and backed off--my "Light Among the Trees" needs more work, it's in November, my foot's itchy, I've got to clean out the fridge that day... As you can see, I chickened out, but Janet went for it. She got a mentor, wrote up a pitch, and worked her story like a master craftsman--and I've been rooting for her all the way. Hacking thousands of words from a 120,000 word manuscript, honing it until every word has meaning, so that one scene falls into another--I sweat doing that on a small scale. She trimmed hers down to 109,000 words. Girl deserves some chocolate--the good stuff. This is her Pitch War pitch and excerpt--Damned If She Do She's number nine. Her heroine's name is Sloan Carr. The story is full of lurking debts, family drama, Tennessee hills, sleek weapons, and above all, that question that lurks in the heart of most every Urban Fantasy story--when have you crossed the line between hunting monsters...and becoming one. There's a handsome ex-monster hunter with secrets lurking on the sidelines, a vampire friend carving normalcy into his life, while questions lurk as to who is leaving bodies on his doorstep. But he might not like the answer--and neither will Sloan. I don't know how wrangle an agent, how to find the one that will completely change your life, but I'm rooting for my friend. If you know an agent (or are hunting for one yourself) check #PitchWars Check out #9, Damned If She Do by Janet Walden-West and mentored by JC Nelson. Oh, must I always blog sometime in that lovely middle ground betwixt daybreak and black as coffee midnight? Of course! This is the magical time when dust bunnies are hunkered way down deep in their lairs, plotting their next great escape; the dishes are chattering in the cupboard about where they'll travel before they create Mount Dishmore in the sink--"Have you been to the couch this time of year? It's fabulous!" "If you think that's so great, then the adrenaline rush of the computer desk...;" the computer is a humming; puppy is a sleepin'; and these keys are a tappin'. :) It's a magical time, this hour.
For all of my fellow late night writers, I raise an eyelid to you! Awww, what the heck, both eyelids! We need a cool title or something...maybe The Night Writers. Something to encompass the awesomeness of rumpled pajamas, squinty eyes, and that chocolate bar you wouldn't have touched in the light of day. Because trade mark of a night writer? Very rarely do you get a five star dinner after midnight. No, we get a pickle, some Halloween candy, whatever leftover is wrapped in the least crinkly thing in the fridge, and a bleary-eyed stare at some steak or chicken or some such that requires an actual dish. Usually the dish you just dried and put away. Truly, there's a principle to this--Mount Dishmore doesn't start its ascent until morning. I mean we have to draw the battle lines somewhere...still this is how pickles are eaten straight out of the jar and fruit isn't thrown directly into the trash. We obviously have no choice... Still, it's the perfect time to scheme up a new storyline--a grand storyline of epic proportions! It'll have storyline turrets and moats... :) There's a reason the night is so wonderful for writing--beyond the quiet that makes aluminum foil sound like crumpling sheet metal; beyond the rooms darkened until your computer's like a mini-sun of unflattering light; beyond the mesmerizing reruns and the fact that no one's asking you for anything so the time feels stolen and boy what a rush!--the reason it's wonderful is the magic. It's the wind cartwheel brittle autumn leaves across the hardened ground, the moon high and full above, casting off a sheen of silver that lightens the world while deepening shadows. It's the still of a quiet night with an endless sky and a pattern of stars. It's a time to dream up monsters, lurking in the shadows and characters to defeat them, all hidden by the darkness--all unseen. Night's always been a time to dream. And so we do... In the cavern of darkness beyond the mid of night, the snick-tick-klunk of tapping keys, the scritch-scratch-fwoosh of a moving pen becomes as natural as the wind, as thoughtful as the moon. It's weaving a story into the night of claws tapping against the window, of footsteps creaking down the stairs... Some close their eyes to tell a story...and some write. These are the late night chocolate eaters, the pickle connoisseurs, the things that look like the monster from the black lagoon in the morning and slowly unfold into something humanoid as the day progresses--they are...The Night Writers. To add to the excitement of the Spooktacular Seductions release, fellow author, Michelle Ziegler is holding a very cool giveaway on her blog. Seriously, I'm half tempted to ask if I can enter. :)
Since I'm such a night owl, I might as well let these posts overlap, rather than waiting for tomorrow. Yesterday Spooktacular Seductions was featured some places and I want to share them here. We were featured on the ever lovely blog, Fuonlyknew, with an excerpt. Reader Girls Blog tried to find out our favorite movie. On top of my game as always, I gave her my favorite book. Luckily other authors knew their movies. :) Today, it will be featured on The Snarkology where we're asked the hard questions--if stuck on a stranded island what two things would you bring? I wonder how many husbands know they're viewed as possessions...? :) Stranded on a desert island with no kids around so many minds went there. It's like we're in a romance anthology or something. :) My favorite answer is from Lily Carlyle. Made me smile. Either she had a moment like I had for Reader Girls or she seriously loves pumpkins. Either way, totally stand out answer and I love it. Another one we're featured in is Sarah Grimm, Author. Featured here, is an excerpt from Michelle Ziegler's "Garden of Souls." Also, some mentions: Shout With Emaginette gave Light a Candle for the Beast some love, putting up the form for an ARC for the book. I'll post it soon, but hop on over and give her blog a good look. Romance that's 'Out of This World', Janet Walden-West, Sheryl Winters, Authors You Want To Read, Michelle Ziegler, London's Scribble's, Scribbler's Sojourn, OriginiquEquanimity, and I think I'm missing one or two--they either helped with the cover reveal of Light a Candle for the Beast or promoted the giveaway for Spooktacular Seductions--they kind of got all mixed up as I was trying to link them. :) Thanks to all! I hope your days are lovely and filled with wonderful stories you can't put down. Enjoy the day! Happy Book Birthday Spooktacular Seductions!
